Education

All the children go to school during the day. Up until recently the younger children did not go to crèche as there was simply no money. From January this year, thanks to private donations, they now attend the Masande Educare centre up the road and the older children go to various schools in Khayelitsha, Woodstock and Mitchells Plain. From January 2010 a corporate started sponsoring their school fees, uniforms, stationary and transport costs – the Education Fund is managed by heart. The plan moving ahead is to enrol the children into better schools in 2011 to give them a better and more solid educational foundation. (This is dependant on the corporate extending the funding to pay for the fees, transport, uniforms and stationary.) TeachOut (a University of Cape Town Volunteer Student Educational Organisation) started in May 2010- to provide after school  tutoring for the Grades 5-9 twice a week. (We are still trying to find an after school tutoring program for the children from crèche-Grade 4.) TeachOut will be using the local educare centre  for this program due to the limited room available at Zanokhanyo. Lennox just recently enrolled in the locally based Ikamva youth program which assists him with homework, tutoring and mentoring at a later stage.
